What Size Is A 1/50th Scale Model Crane?

Posted by Weiss Bros on 2nd Nov 2017

Now that you see the title, I am sure you are thinking one of two things.  First, "I know what 1/50th scale means, what the heck?"  Second, "That is a great question, I was always wondering that myself."

Today, we are going to post about those that are thinking the SECOND thing.  If you were thinking the first thing and really do not need to know what the 1/50th scale thing is all about, please see this awesome link and enjoy your day.

When we are talking about diecast models, the 1/50th scale is one of the most used scales in the business.  The scale is used for trucks, buses, cars, and especially cranes.  Even though the term can be sort of confusing if you have not dealt with scale models in your life, the explanation is quite simple.  Being able to get on the internet and search for your answers has been a great advancement in technology if you ask us :)

According to the all knowing Wikipedia.  The 1:50 scale is a popular size for diecast models and is typically used for models like construction vehicles, tower cranes, trucks and buses.  In many cases, this is the size that is used by manufacturing companies when they create their promotional items for prospective customers.

Scale model websites like ours will sell different sizes of models, but the scale always means the same thing. Not to get too technical, but the actual definition of a scale model really comes down to the fact that your model, diecast or not, is a physical representation of the real life thing.  This might be a home, business, plane, park and even a roller coaster.  Either way, you are using a scale model to show of the details and likeness of a real life thing.

The cranes that we sell or very detailed, some of the most detailed in the market, and are scale models of the real thing that you can find on constructions sites all over the world.  When our product listing refers to a 1/50th scale model, you are going to be getting a crane that measures about 84" tall.  Take a look at the MLC650 for example.  All of that detail is just like the real thing, only smaller, or at 1/50th of the size of the real thing.

People that are confused about scale models, often ask things like "is the 1/64th scale larger than the 1/50th scale?"  These are great questions to gain the knowledge about the scale model world, but if you look at the scale model size as a fraction, you will notice that 1/50th is larger than 1/64th.  Meaning, the 1/50th scale is larger than the 1/64th.  Make sense?

If we have not confused you enough yet, take a look at the HUGE 1/8th scale crane that we offer.  Just CLICK HERE, check out the crane and you will clearly see the difference in size.  People that like to get really technical on the internet, have an explanation for you, as well.
