Manitowoc Cranes Built One Of The Coolest NFL Stadiums Ever
Posted by Weiss Bros on 2nd Jan 2018
We have all heard of the Atlanta Falcons football team, right? In case you were not paying much attention this year, the stadium the team calls home is one of the wildest I have ever seen in my life. Of course, in Texas, there is a stadium that costs a lot of money and seats a lot of people, but the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Georgia is one-of-a-kind! The best part about the stadium, and what really only matters to us here, is that it was built with the help of Manitowoc Cranes :)
More than 70,000 seats and a retractable roof that looks like a camera shutter are just the beginning here. Take a quick look at some of the videos posted here and you'll see the Manitowoc cranes doing what they do best!
As you can see right here, that is a Manitowoc 31000 in place to do the heavy lifting needed to raise more than 40 million pounds of steel for the roof. In the video below, you can clearly see all of the hard work and dedication that goes into engineering the lift of just ONE roof truss. High winds play a role, but the biggest crawler crane in the world is on crane mats and ready to do the work. Enjoy.
This video only shows the movements and specialized support that is needed for construction projects of this size. The crew had to do this 99 more times just to complete the FIXED portion of the roof on the stadium. In total, more than $1.2 billion was spent on the stadium design, engineering and construction. The plans are for more than just football as plans are in order to host soccer games, college sports and other major events like concerts and wrestling.
