Giant Remote Control Crane Made From Legos (Video)

Model cranes are very fun and can be a great hobby to keep you occupied.  Buying a new crane, setting it up in your crane room and then getting accessories to add to the overall model crane experience are just a few of things that this hobby allows for.  What if you had time to take a bunch of Legos and build your very own crane?

That is what this guy did.  According to the original article, Dawid Szmandra did exactly that.  Dawid is from Poland and apparently had some extra time on his hands.  He took to building this 1/24th scale model of a Liebherr crane in his home.  With more than 80,000 views on YouTube, many other people were interested in his build as well.  Stand more than 10 feet tall, the remote control crane weighs in at about 60 pounds.

This scale model crane is controlled by a small remote switch pad that can tell the operator the weight of what it is lifting and a percentage of how that weight corresponds to what the crane can lift.  Other features include a winch mounted on springs and a light sensor that can help to measure distance.

The video shows Dawid lifting and moving a number of regular household items, much like we show on our YouTube page, and the overall detail that went into the build.

More than 3,000 people subscribe to this guy's YouTube channel and I must agree that the videos are quite entertaining.  In case you are really curious if this is made from LEGOs, here is a bit of information from the description:

Made 99.9% of LEGO, exceptions are PRINTED pulley wheels, stickers, strings etc. and 5kg of lead.

Slewing ring is made 100% of LEGO. I used minifig heads as rollers.

Overall, it's pretty cool to see.  I am sure that it is fun to mess around with as well.

If you could, would you build something like this?
