Cranes The Float On The Water
Posted by Weiss Bros on 28th Dec 2017
Northeast of the United Kingdom, one of the world's largest floating cranes has arrived at the Peterhead Port. We posted an article recently about a crane that was jacked up over the water and used to retrieve a tunnel boring machine out in the middle of the ocean. For today's post, we are going to talk about the "Asian Hercules III".
The crane is basically on built right on a barge and has a lifting capacity of more than 5,000 tons. The overall height of the hook is more than 120 meters, giving this crane plenty of reach when it needs it. The Asian Hercules III is in the area to help move 11 steel jacket foundations weighing more than 1,800 tons each. Those steel jacket foundations are going to be used at a wind farm site located in the Aberdeen Bay.
The power sector in the United Kingdom has been moving towards becoming free of fossil fuels and the overall engineering behind the floating crane is a testament of what can be done to help move those goals along. Besides safety, other important concerns for a project this large is the efficiency of it and that comes from all the talent coming together to see it through. The Asian Hercules III is just a part of that talent.
