Better Crane Technology Leads to Project Cost Savings
Posted by Weiss Bros on 16th Jan 2018
For the most part, what cranes look like to us has not really changed that much over the last few decades. They are still huge, steel pieces of equipment that can move tons of weight at one time. However, on the inside of these cranes, there has been a change in the technology that is used and over the years, that has helped construction companies save time and in the end, money on a project.
Take this article for example. The Grove TMS9000-2, by Manitowoc was built with the idea that it could be lighter, longer and stronger. The very first company to take delivery on one was in Canada and for that company it was all about getting ahead of the competition. Having a longer, main boom, the TMS9000-2 was able to give the company a little more reach with a smaller crane footprint. In the end, having just about 27 more feet of boom, the company realized the time savings right away.
Having the longer boom meant the company did not have to take a swingaway jib on and off the crane. Taking this one step out of the process proved to be the main benefit for the small, crane rental company. Boosting the main boom almost 30 more feet allowed the company to offer the crane to more situations and according to the company, it has been working since the day they took delivery.
So, here we are talking about the extension of the boom that creates the extra time for the crane operator and the company that is renting it. Inside the cab, you are going to find newer technology with every new crane model that comes off the assembly line. Being able to lift thousands of tons at one time and place them within an 1/8th inch tolerance is very impressive.
Take a look at the TMS9000-2 in action and see if you cannot find a good reason you could rent it for a job that you might be working on in the future.
